Coaches Corner | Dribbling And Running With The Ball 3


PRACTICE ORGANIZATION

A 5 x 5 square/area. Each player on the outside with a ball one player in the middle without a ball. Starting positions for each player on the outside of the square evenly- spaced. Players attempt to to dribble across the square or to an adjacent side. while avoiding being tagged by the player in the middle. Getting across equals 2 points. adjacent sides equals 1 point. If a player gets tagged 3 times they change with the player in the middle.

PURPOSE OF THE SESSION

This basic activity will develop player's ability to move quickly with the ball while keeping the ball under control and assessing situations

PROGRESSION

only 1 player is allowed to be on one side at a time.

introduce a neutral player in the middle of the square as a passing option so players can combine with while trying to get across the square.

COACHING POINTS

Players recognising where there is space to attack

Changing direction/ faking and disguising their intentions

Looking up to assess situations

Calculating risk vs reward
